Many schools give the SAT and PSAT during the school day instead of on a national weekend. These in-school windows let whole grades test together.
Fall 2026 SAT School Day, PSAT/NMSQT, and PSAT 8/9: October 1 to 30, 2026.
Spring 2027 SAT School Day, PSAT 10, and PSAT 8/9: March 1 to April 30, 2027.
Your school picks the exact day within each window, so ask your counselor which date your school will use.

Each national date has two deadlines. The registration deadline is the last day to sign up at the standard fee. The late and changes deadline is the last day to register late, switch your test date, or change your test center, all for an extra fee.
Register the day registration opens for the date you want. You get your first-choice center and avoid late fees, and you have a buffer if anything goes wrong with your account or device setup.
Most students take the SAT for the first time in the spring of junior year, then again in the fall of senior year if they want a higher score. Two attempts are common, and many colleges superscore your best section results across attempts.
If you are applying early decision or early action, plan to finish testing by October or November of senior year so scores arrive before deadlines. The October and November 2026 dates are especially useful for that.
Juniors usually take the PSAT/NMSQT during the fall in-school window in October. The October 2026 PSAT window overlaps with the October 3 national SAT, so if you are doing both, make sure your PSAT School Day does not land on the same Saturday as your SAT.
Studying for the PSAT is studying for the SAT, since the two tests share format and skills. Knock out both in the same fall window and you will arrive at your spring SAT already in shape.
Missed the regular deadline? Late registration stays open for a few days with a fee. If you cannot test on your scheduled day due to illness or an emergency, contact the College Board right away to request a change or a refund.
If your test center closes on test day, the College Board schedules a makeup date, and you do not pay again for a makeup caused by a closure.
By the regular registration deadline for your date, which is about two to four weeks before test day. Popular test centers fill up early, so register as soon as registration opens to get your first-choice center and avoid late fees.
Late registration stays open for a few more days with an extra fee. For 2026-2027, each national date has a late and changes deadline listed above. You can also change your date or center after registering, again for a fee.
The PSAT/NMSQT and PSAT 8/9 are given in school during the Fall 2026 SAT School Day window, October 1 to 30, 2026. Check with your school for the exact day it will administer the test.
Yes. Schools can give the SAT, PSAT 10, and PSAT 8/9 during in-school windows. For 2026-2027, the fall window is October 1 to 30, 2026 and the spring window is March 1 to April 30, 2027.
Most students take it in the spring of junior year, then again in the fall of senior year if they want a higher score. Starting junior year leaves time to retake before college deadlines.
